Colindale collection - light brown

Squigee, the innovative surface design company, have been invited to add a distinctive design edge to two original London Transport moquette textile designs.  Moquette is a uniquely serviceable natural wool based material used by transport providers because of its durability and texture.

Squigee was established in 1997 by Natasha Marshall and Neil Fullerton. They met at Glasgow School of Art while Natasha was studying Textiles and Neil Graphic Design and it is this combination that gives them their unique design style.

Squigee have chosen the famous leaf pattern “Colindale” by Marion Dorn for its cutting edge design and historic importance.

Marion Dorn was one of four artists including Norbert Dutton, Enid Marx and Paul Nash commissioned in the 1930’s to create customised seating fabrics by the legendary Frank Pick, who rose to become Managing Director London Transport.  Pick had a firm belief in fitness for purpose that good design should be at the heart of all that an organisation in both its appearance its operation.

Dorn was asked to respond to a design brief that emphasised the designs should draw on colours which responded well to artificial light and patterns which take into account wear and tear and soiling.  The resulting new moquette design “Colindale” like the other designs was predominately geometric and utterly contemporary - a complete change from the floral patterns previously produced.

The original colourway for Colindale was red and green which Squigee have reinterpreted into blue, brown and red colourways for the 21st century contemporary market.
