Following an intense international debate on the accidental omission of Fanny Blankers-Koen from the selection of athletes on the Olympic Legends map, a new version of this map has been created which includes this remarkable athlete. As only 361 athletes can be allocate to the map there was always going to be a debate on who was or was not included – this is partly what makes the map so interesting. TfL and the designers of the map never meant any offence to those athletes who they were not able to include.
No one has been removed from the new version of the map. Instead, Mary Decker and Zola Budd (who famously collided with each other during the race) now share a Tube station.
The map was created by Alex Trickett, sports journalist and former International Editor of the BBC Sport website and David Brooks, sports historian, journalist and author of "The All-Time World Cup".
